Vellore Institute of Technology is a deemed university in Tamil Nadu (or as known in Tamil Nadu not affiliated to the Anna University). The university boasts of a sprawling campus with lush greenery. The university is accredited by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and by the Institute of Engineers (IE). The university has a cosmopolitan culture mainly due to students from all over India applying to the university.
The institute apart from academics also promotes extra-curricular activities and has many clubs. Debating society, Arts and literary association, drama and histrionics club are some of the active clubs in the institute. The students also undertake chapters for career growth by organizing career guidance workshops and talks. The Indian Society of Technical Education (ISTE) formed by the students also conducts mock tests for post graduate studies for the students.

The entry to Vellore Institute of Technology is via the Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Exam (VITEEE). The exam stressed on understanding of Mathematics and Science. Being an all India level examination it does not stick to the curriculum of any state board and hence the questions can be vast and distinct. The exam is considered less difficult than IIT-JEE and AIEEE. The entry is merit based with a small percentage for the Non Resident Indians (NRI) quota.

|Introduction||the VITEEE is conducted by the Vellore Institute of Technology for entry into engineering programs into the 9 schools under VIT. The VIT is a deemed university and conducts the exam separate from Anna University. This is a pan India level exam. This exam is for both the Vellore and Chennai campus of VIT|
|Eligibility||The applicant for admission should be a Resident / Non Resident Indian National and should have studied in Regular, Full time and formal education. Candidates should have cleared 10+2 or its equivalent from a recognized school/university with Maths, Physics and Chemistry as the subjects. The students must have a aggregate of 60% marks in PCM/PCB depending on the branch of engineering he is applying for. The average of PCM/PCB is 50% for Scheduled Cast and Scheduled Tribe students and also candidates from Jammu and Kashmir and North eastern India.|
|Application Process|| Students can apply offline and online. For offline application students have to send their application form to the mentioned address or by buying it from cash from the given list of post offices or by paying a demand draft of the requisite amoung at VIT.

|Paper Pattern||The question paper has multiple choice questions. There are 120 questions 40 each for Physics Chemistry and Maths/Biology with one mark awarded for each correct answer and no negative marks for an incorrect answer. The language of examination is English|
|Admission Process|| The scores of VITEEE only are considered valid for admission. Diploma holders are not eligible for admission. The rank of VITEEE is given on the basis of marks secured by the candidate. The institute also awards scholarship to meritious students. Rank holders of 1 to 50 in VITEEE get 75% tuition fee wavier for all the 4 years.
Rank holders of 51 to 100 in VITEEE get 50% of tuition fee wavier for all the 4 years.
