The Technical Branch mainly consists of engineers required in the Indian Air Force. The Technical branch is divided into Aeronautical Engineers in Mechanical Branch -AE (M) and Aeronautical Engineers in Electronic Branch - AE (L). The AE (M) is utilized to keep the aircrafts operationally ready in any situation. While the AE (L) are required to maintain most sophisticated electronic net works of communications from ground to air and vice versa; install, maintain, operate defence radar systems ; operate other electronic gadgets, sophisticated computers ; maintain and operate other ground defence electronics equipments. Hence effectiveness of aircraft as a weapon in offence and defence, grounds defence through surface to air missiles, etc., requires worthy and intelligent manpower for this branch of service.
Selection Process
Selection in IAF Technical Branches is a multi stage procedure. Candidates are first required to appear in an Engineering Knowledge Test (EKT)). EKT is of 1 hour duration consisting of objective questions only. CET has two parts:
1.General Engineering
2.Specialized Paper for each engineering course: Options are Mechanical/Aeronautical/Electronics & Instrumentation/Computer Science & Information Technology
