Mumbai_UniversityFinal-year students of the colleges affiliated to the University of Mumbai will not have to go to the Kalina campus to collect the hall tickets for the 2012-13 examinations.

The university has decided to issue the hall tickets online to all the colleges for the final-year exams of science, commerce and arts streams and the students can collect them for there.

"We are initiating this process with these three as many students appear for final-year examination from these streams, especially commerce," explained Subhash Deo, director of examinations, University of Mumbai.

The new system will also include distance education candidates.

"Online hall tickets will be most beneficial for the distance education students, who complete their degree through this mode for lack of time. They will only have to come once to the Institute of Distance and Open Learning on the Kalina campusto collect their hall tickets to be able to appear for the examination," added Deo.

While students appreciate the varsity's effort to embrace modern technology to help them, they hope that it will be a glitch-free process.

"It is a good move as it was time we used technology for convenience in the formal education system. However, considering the list of goof-ups by the varsity, I hope that issuing hall tickets online do not lead to further problems," said a concerned commerce student from Bhavan's College in Andheri, who did not want to be named.

Another third-year arts student from Ruia College in Matunga pointed out:"Already, we have seen cases of major errors in hall tickets. Now, if the process goes online and ours is the first batch, we are obviously worried."
