CLAT 2012: Students allege paper was leaked; NLU-Jodhpur denies it. Mystery prevails.

Even as we thought, that the controversies around CLAT 2012 were only with respect to the largely alleged out-of-syllabus nature of the question...

Even as we thought, that the controversies around CLAT 2012 were only with respect to the largely alleged out-of-syllabus nature of the question paper, the story gets murkier by the day. A few students on the Facebook group - CLATHackers have posted about a possible paper leak that happened at one of the major centres of CLAT 2012 - C.M. Model School, Rohini, Sector 24, New Delhi. Gyancentral's Surya Ragunaathan investigates.

A few students have been alleging that there have been some malpractices at the Rohini centre, New Delhi on May 13, during the CLAT 2012 examination. Said a student on condition of anonymity, "Examination papers were leaked out at 2 pm, 30 minutes prior to the official examination timing. There were parents of two-three students who were sons and daughters of IAS officers and they were allowed into the campus along with their wards." According to the student, nobody at first had a clue as to what for was this done?

The incident was then discovered by a few parents standing outside the campus and who had accompanied their wards for the exam. Says another student, "the parents started protesting and tried to enter the gate but were thrown out and the gates were locked by the accompanying security."

Another student who wrote in to Gyancentral said, "I was there writing my exam. My father was there too and saw all this happen. Many others at the centre are standing by the statement. The police which was already there tried to control the situation. But the matter is being suppressed. We need your help. I am writing this on behalf of all the students who appeared for the exam."

After the incident, students claim that some of the parents went and filed an FIR at the local police station. While no student or parent so far has come forward to show us a copy of the said FIR, nonetheless, we got in touch with the Rohini-Begampur Police Station under whose jurisdiction, C.M. Model School falls. Head constable, Mr. Suresh Kumar said, "Yes, sector 24 schools fall into out jurisdiction. No such FIR was filed by anybody." On asking if there could be a possibility that they could have filed the FIR at some other police station, Kumar said, "No madam! Not possible. If they went to any other station, they would have been redirected to come here only."

When Gyancentral first read these reports and letters, we decided to probe further into the matter and after pulling quite a few strings, spoke to a representative form C.M. Model School, Rohini, New Delhi. Kriteesh Arora (name changed), an office bearer at the school said, "We had nothing to do with the incident. The exam happened under the observation of the CLAT organizers. The school was merely a venue. NLU had called for the police, the control room where the papers are kept was in their hands and it’s completely under their prerogative."

When we questioned him further about the FIR that was allegedly filed by some parents, Arora washed his hands off the incident. He added, "No FIR was filed against the school. That much I am sure of because we would have been summoned to the Begampur police station, in that case. But we were not. And anyway, this whole thing was conducted by the CLAT organizers and we have nothing to do with it.”

So as final attempt, Gyancentral got in touch with Mr Joshi, one of the head examination observers at the said Rohini centre. Mr Joshi, like many others was appointed by National Law University (NLU), Jodhpur and at the Delhi centre to supervise and conduct the examination smoothly. Explains Mr Joshi, "There was no such incident. All these things are rumours. I have no clue about why or whether any parent filed an FIR. And if they did, then why are they not speaking up? I was right there at the centre watching over the processes throughout the day. The exam was conducted very smoothly."

Mr Joshi also added that there were minor issues like water problem which was solved by him personally. "Yes there were some small infrastructural issues like there was only one water cooler and no glasses kept on it. So I called a few staff boys and asked them to serve water to students who asked for it. Also, there was one classroom where the fan was not working so I had the students shift out from there to another classroom."
Upon insisting that how could it be that such a huge issue seems to have happened - a few parents were let in with their wards at 2 pm and he was not even aware of it, Joshi threw some light on how the procedure is done during CLAT exams. "We are trained for this purpose by the NLU for over two weeks. We are taught how to handle minor to major situations. Yes, there were dignitaries (IAS officers) among those parents and along with them a few more parents wanted to drink water. Since the venue is far off even for normal Delhi, people had come from far away places in the heat. So I allowed a few of them only up to the gallery, not even inside the campus of the school, where they were given water to drink."

Joshi further explained that the control room at the centre is where the papers are kept sealed and secured. "NLU-Jodhpur keeps monitoring the process from time to time. They call once before the exam to find out if everything is going smooth. At 2.30 pm the students were let inside the campus. They took their places in the classrooms. Even until then, the question papers were not brought out from the control room. The registrar form NLU then takes the sealed papers to the invigilators in the classrooms and hands them the papers. The seals are broken only after distribution of paper at 2.40 pm. Not before that. So this kind of leaking story is not even possible, technically. This is totally baseless."

We finally decided to take our queries to the Captain of the ship, Justice NN Mathur, since the buck stops there, thinking may be, he might have a different response this time. But he too denied all allegations. Said Justice Mathur (slightly miffed at the questions), "Nothing of the sort happened. I had personally called up the Rohini centre at 2 pm and even after that, my staff was in touch with the centre's control room. There was nobody there. The papers were sealed. These allegations are completely baseless."

Well, if a paper leak incident and further filing of an FIR did occur, then it’s very important that the affected students and parents come out together in the open and either present a copy of the FIR to the CLAT organizers or release it in the media as proof. But at this point in time, nothing seems clear as the two parties – neither the students/parents nor CLAT 2012 organizers are really sliding aside from their point. Looks like a tug of war of sorts, but the mystery of who holds the rope tighter remains at its helm.

Most successful executives, I've come to know, had kicked-off their career from Sales and thats exactly how I started off back in 92.

Eventually, your career may lead to Marketing and Strategic Planning or towards the most responsible position of Director Sales. Ending up as CEO though is slightly different; you need to have 'that something special' in you. Don't worry, you'll learn that.

A friend of mine threw these terrific short articles at me. I've read a few and they're good. I don't know who wrote them or where the source lies but this stuff is bound to help you develop an insight and get an edge not only in your course but will also give you a jump start and help you in avoiding the silliest of mistakes that are often made in the early days of a sales career.

Many organisations are leveraging Social Media to create outreach to the general public for niche events these days. There usually has been a disconnect with the masses at large for such events especially if the events focus on cloud computing and storage servers- (Storage Forum India).
Dell has come out with a new campaign(dellstoragebuzz.com) where it is offering to give away its recently released Ultrabook XPS 13 and Smartphones in a contest which users can easily create an account and share its content on various social media handles.

Besides from using social media in regulars promotion which is being seen as a tidal wave of sorts, many companies are using traditional measure to promote such 'non-mainstream' events.

Do you think this is an interesting way of approaching event marketing?

More importantly, would YOU as a regular user would participate?

As the competition is increasing every day, the standard of the exams is also increasing according to it. The propose of these exams is to test different aspect of student which includes the time management as well as problem solving ability under pressure. This exam is also following the same set of format as done by most of MBA exams in the country.

The preparation for this exam is an impotent step as it requires time management to crack it. The most important thing for this exam is time management or how to deal with question’s when the clock is ticking. The best way to do this is by regularly practicing the question with clock on one side. The exam have different set of question which are there to test our ability of managing time and to test our approach in solving problem under a limited time period.

The examination pattern consists of multiple choice objective type questions of 200 marks. The number of questions section wise changes as the mark scheme changes in every exam but the total number of marks remains the same. These objectives MCQ covers different aspects of our studies such as the Verbal Reasoning is taken from the English. This includes the questions taken from reading comprehension, which vary in number as well as the number of questions also. Other than this, the questions are of jumble sentence, grammar and vocabulary. The Quantitative Ability and Reasoning is taken from math’s which deals in the questions related to functions, trigonometry, number system, permutation and combination, equations, coordinate geometry, probability, data sufficiency, series, compound interest, maxima and minima, logs, integration and differentiation etc. the section of Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning is based on different real life problems which includes single & two dimensional data problems and other problems based on line graph, pie chart and tables. The GK covers most of the current affair topics. The GK also test the knowledge about history, Geography, Indian constitution, global business environment, Science, major global events and with all this it also cover the topics related to business world such as top business executives names who have been in news in recent times, mergers and acquisition, etc. The time limit for these questions is 120 minutes only.

Our website is dedicated in providing all the latest information to the students which help them in updating their knowledge.

MAT or the Management Aptitude Test is one of the most important entrance examinations for some of the major business schools in the country. There are many business schools in India which admit the students into the management program based on the results of MAT and hence, it holds a lot of importance for all MBA aspirants. This entrance exam is basically conducted by the All India Management Aptitude Testing Service (AIMATS), New Delhi conducts the Management Aptitude Test (MAT) as the National Entrance Test for admission to MBA and equivalent programmes of the various participating institutes. Approved by the Government of India, MAT results are accepted by All India Management Association - Centre for Management Education (AIMA-CME) and other AICTE-approved Management Institutes (MI) and university departments. Besides having test centres all over India, MAT is also conducted in overseas locations.MAT is usually conducted 4 times each year in February, May, September and December.MAT is a two and a half hour test and a large number of colleges and universities all over the country consider the MAT results while deciding if the applicant gets the admission.

MAT is basically conducted around four times every year and the scores each time will be valid for that particular academic year. In the earlier times, MAT was conducted as a paper based examination like all other entrance examinations. But now the candidates are given an option of choosing between paper based format or the online format. The application forms for MAT are easily available at many designated branches of Bank of Baroda and also in the centers of AIMA. The cost of application is around Rs. 980. You can also apply for the examination online easily by making the payment through credit card or through Demand Draft

Image: http://www.gyancentral.com/images/stories/mohit.JPG One of the most coveted private engineering colleges in India, Kalinga Institute of...

One of the most coveted private engineering colleges in India, Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) is conducting its entrance exam for Engineering and Medical streams on April 22, 2012. Surya Ragunaathan talks to Omkar Amrutanshu and Mohit Dayal, two of KIIT's brightest students about what candidates must do four days before the big day.

"Last week preparation is more about setting realistic targets. Usually, out of panic we start studying everything again. Taking a serving of more than how much one can eat has never helped anyone.

Brooding over what you could have completed or could have mastered at is a suicide mission that many go around at this time. Try avoiding that and depressing others around you too," says Amrutanshu in a rather serious tone.

Amrutanshu says that it is not wise to start studying new concepts few days before the exam. But rather a smart way of working would be to prepare different kinds of numericals from the concepts you are already acquainted with. That, he says, would help widen the scope of questions you can answer. "Taking intelligent and calculative guesses should be restricted to the concepts you are pretty much familiar with. A single negative means five marks lost, not a one-mark negative."

KIIT prefers to test the analytical and logical bend of the aspirants. What this means is, though the difficulty level of the exam may be moderate, the questions tend to be phrased such that the student uses some analytic logic to arrive at the solution. "So expect to stumble upon questions that you have never come across in your practice sets but just attempting them with a logical mind makes it a cakewalk," explains Amrutanshu.

Revision has always been a lesson taught to us since our school days. It helps us recollect what we have already studied in classrooms and preparation sessions. Revision helps us store the information fresh in our minds for the exam day. Says Mohit Dayal, a Computer Science engineering student from KIIT, "Do not revise entire chapters or topics. No time for that. Instead, revise smartly. Go through all the important Mathematical formulas and just the focus of the main chapters from each of the three subjects, namely Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry."
"As the difficulty level of the questions at KIITEE is not much when compared to IIT-JEE, focus on your speed and your accuracy." Dayal also warns students not to take chances with the questions you are unsure of as one incorrect answer will take away five marks!

"Get your basic Calculus formulas worked out in Mathematics, and Organic Chemistry as well. Expect an easy question paper, provided you have got your basics right!"

In the end, both students have one common point to say which is, that KIITEE is one of the more crack-able exams amongst all the engineering and medical entrances in the country. And so keep your cool and give it your best!
