    Telecom SectorThe Indian telecom sector is one of the fastest growing in the world and is projected to become the second largest telecom market globally. According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), India has over 600 million mobile subscribers and this number is expected to reach 1.01 billion by 2014.
    With newer technologies such as 3G and WIMAX entering the market, the sector has opened up enormous opportunities. There is a huge demand for qualified and skilled professionals with knowledge and technical know-how in these fields.
    The telecom revolution in India has been quite exceptional, with so many new players entering the market and existent players expanding operations. While the sector has been one of the largest employers in the last decade, it would still need around 2,75,000 people by 2015. The challenge here would be to get the right talent


    INDUSTRY STATUS


    In terms of market performance for the year, the telecom, managed services and networking market may see moderate growth in 2010 considering the revival of the global economy and improvement in the overall business climate. The Indian market is still adding about 15 million subscribers every month and around 10 million handsets.
    Nowadays, almost every sector or industry uses telecom technology — be it aviation, ports, health, public utilities or the government. This has led to a surge in telecom jobs in India.
    The telecom sector is vast and offers a range of career opportunities on both the hardware and software fronts. These prospects include functional jobs in mobile telephony, internet protocol media systems, wireless communications, GSM, GPRS and CDMA technology, VoIP, data networks and optical networks, amongst others.


    GROWTH AVENUES


    With the government offering license to new players and auction of 3G and BWA spectrum, the telecom sector is going for high scale recruitments. There is a huge demand for software engineers, mobile analysts and hardware engineers for mobile handsets. Besides, there are ample opportunities for marketing people whose services are required to capture a broader customer-base.
    The new projects, setting up of new service bases, expansion of coverage areas, network installations, maintenance, etc are providing more and more employment opportunities in the telecom sector.

    SKILL-SETS REQUIRED

    To pursue a career in the telecom sector, one can pursue telecom engineering. There are various degree and certificate levelcourses for students to pursue in this field to get a head start in the telecom sector.
    Aspirants can pursue Bachelor’s and Master’s in telecom engineering from a reputed institute along with various diploma/certificate courses in telecom engineering, information technology, computer science, management information systems, computer forensics, computer engineering, and Bachelor of Science in Mobile Internet Communication Technology/Informatics. While the degree programme takes four years for completion; the duration for certification courses varies from six months to one year.

    A student who has completed his higher secondary education with chemistry, physics and mathematics, is eligible to apply for a graduation course in telecommunication engineering. These students can also take the IIT-JEE Joint Entrance Examination conducted by the states. The Indian institutes also offer a postgraduate degree in the course. Students who have completed their BTech degree in telecommunication engineering from a university approved by the All India Council of Technical Education are eligible to apply for their Master’s.

    Telecom sector is one of the most flourishing sector in world and the education of this sector also gives you good job.So telecommunication engineering is one of the highly adopted engineering study nowadays by the students.So i must say that career is good in this engineering sector.

    Why dont you share some more views regarding the Telecom Sector so that the new upcoming engineers will get a good idea about the course.
