Maharashtra_CETMumbai: Each year, a couple of engineering aspirants crack the Maharashtra-Common Entrance Test (MHTCET) and score a perfect 200 on 200. This time, not a single candidate managed that feat. Pritesh Vinod Chhajed from Nashik's JDC Bytco College grabbed the top spot with an astonishing 199 in the engineering CET. About 50% fewer candidates secured 150 or more compared to 2010.

In the medical stream, apart from a few toppers, students across Maharashtra put up a poor show. Only 19 candidates scored between 190 and 200 in 2011 compared to the 79 last year. "This year's question paper quizzed students on fundamental concepts in the sciences and mathematics. The performance shows that they have been practising on a set format designed by coaching classes," said a senior DMER official.

mh_cetMaharashtra government has decided to cancel the requirement of domicile certificate for professional courses (including MBA and PGDM) in the state. They also said that both class X passing certificate or birth certificate can be used as proof of domicile.

Although this is great news for students, the sad part is that the news has not been put up on the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) website, where it still shows the extended deadline to submit domicile certificates.

Also, this decision, even though a blessing, hasn't gone down well with some students who have already been through a lot of trouble to get all the documentation done. Their complaints are that they have wasted money, time and gone through so much only to know it was all futile. They are okay with the decision but they feel it should have come a lot earlier and that now it is just unfair to them. They also raised questions on the management of the DTE.

mhcetThe results of MHCET 2011 which was held on Sunday, February 27, 2010, were declared on Monday, April 11, 2011. According the statistics released by DTE, Maharastra the highest Score in MHCET 2011 is 172 out of 200 and only 13 candidates have crossed 150 mark.

This year about 92,166 students registered for the MHCET, 89,620 of them took the test. According to the information revealed by DTE, Maharashtra that 76 candidates scored over 140, 285 crossed 130, 907 got more than 120 and 2,162 more than 110.

With these scores, the college cut-offs may fall dramatically and students with 130 marks can have a good chance of getting admissions into a top college in Mumbai says the experts.
